Ship Constructor

The first software I am writing about is shipconstructor. Being in the AEC industry, it’s amazing how far behind we are, or at least that we are not further. This programs seems to do all the things BIM is promising, and it’s all in one package. Im not sure when they say “AutoCAD-based 3D product,” if it is built on top of Autocad (like a plugin) or if it behaves like autocad in that it is drafting based. For this write up I did not get a chance to demo the software but in the further I will be writing about either program I use or I will request demo versions.

“no ‘riggin way” could this be based on POS acad. I think the salesblurb “marries AutoCAD’s ease-of-drafting” implies the ui should be easier for acad users to grasp. if ShipConstructor needed acad, you’d see that in “system requirements” (i didn’t look)

ShipConstructor needs a better product name shipbim (not timeless). shipcon (sounds too republican). shipmod (mmm, maybe not timeless enough). DinghyDrafter ☻
hahahh, No BIM name since i guess it’s kind of specific to buildings. I think your right about being ACAD “like” similar to Rhino it is ACAD “like” i would imagine. I’ll request a demo and find out.

ShipConstructor sits on top of AutoCAD. Currently ShipConstructor is not compatible with AutoCAD 2009 ot any LT AutoCAD version. It IS compatible with the following:
AutoCAD 2007, 2008, Mechanical Desktop, and Mechanical. In the near future (with the release of ShipConstructor 2008 R3, this fall) ShipConstructor 2008 will support AutoCAD 2009.
