Design Reform Forum?
In the next few weeks I hope to re-launch the forum section of this site. In general it has only been used for students to post work and for me to give feed back. My interest is in making it much more of a discussion rather than me answering questions (which i will keep doing).
So my question to every one reading is…. What aspect of a forum would compel or dissuade you to contribute? Is it interface, categorization (technique vs software) or you just don’t like forums?
If you have any thoughts on this post or an example of a forum that you found particularly useful or fosters good conversation please post it in the comments of this post. Hopefully I can get some good feedback and put into the design of the new forum.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave:
From what I’ve seen on other forums, posts discussing techniques seem to generate more interests and positive feedbacks. Take for example crymod’s sandbox2 forum section, where the exchange of techniques in modeling and scripting is healthy and productive. Comparing techniques and tools from different software can be good too, ie when should we use such and such tool in max vs another one in rhino (for the sake of inuitiveness of the workflow or speed).
However, with popular software and games, software comparison posts have a tendency to turn into flame wars between software fans. Sometimes those comments take up a large section of posts and makes looking for information a bit inconvenient. I will also be great to allow for posting screenshots of work in progress, since they generate curiosity, comments, and in the case of trouble-shooting a task it is very helpful (again see crymod) This is of course a bit of a luxury unless you have a lot of bandwidth and you are intending to really develop this space into an exchange platform.
Thanks for the feedback i’ll look into crymod a bit more
Hi dave,
came across your site trying to find a fast method for getting vector paths from the UV unwrapping modifer, and absolutely ate up all your tutes on wire parameters.
i’d love to start contributing to the forum, if not just for a place to discuss 3d modeling methods and techniques. the format of the forums seems pretty minimal in design. my opinion is it could do with a little colour.
i’ll check back at a later date for the re-launch.
Dave:
Nice job, and beautiful graphics on you site.
I have been to SHOP’s offices.
