3D NURBS Sketching

This is pretty amazing technology. I would say it’s a mix of Alias Sketch Book Pro & Studio Tools. You are basically drawing 3d curves as if you were drawing freehand on a tablet. The gesture UI is also pretty amazing.

A 3D curve sketching system that captures some of the affordances of pen and paper for professional designers, allowing them to iterate directly on concept 3D curve models. The system coherently integrates existing techniques of sketch-based interaction with a number of novel and enhanced features. Novel contributions of the system include automatic view rotation to improve curve sketchability, an axis widget for sketch surface selection, and implicitly inferred changes between sketching techniques. We also improve on a number of existing ideas such as a virtual sketchbook, simplified 2D and 3D view navigation, multi-stroke NURBS curve creation, and a cohesive gesture vocabulary.

Fantastic way of modelling,
Really seems they have thought a lot about how to make the interaction between user and creative process smooth so that the effort of the user is all focused on the outcome rather then trying to get there head around the controls.
I spent some time playing around with a Nintendo Wii remote and connecting it to my pc to see how it would work on a very simple level. Clearly it was going to be very buggy from the start but it has always seemed that every other form of the computer has been pushed and is being pushed to the very limits yet a Keyboard + Mouse combo seem so acient in comparison. The simple change to a Tablet will enlighten you if you haven’t already played around with it. Very happy to see people developing the software specific to our feild that puts the two together.
Great post.
Thanks
wow that’s pro.
