Description :In this 3ds Max 2010 video we will cover how to use the new topology tools with an Edit poly modifier.  This addresses one of the questions in the comments about how to modify the base geometry with out losing your modifications.  I prefer this method to placing an FFD box on the whole thing.

Topics Covered:

  • Edit Poly Modifier
  • Animates Mode
  • Topology Tools
  • FFD Box

    David, thx for the tut.
i will try to work on a dynamic solution for controling u-v-spanning (rows and spans) of the initial geometry…eg…if i want to add vertical segments (floors)…. that was my initial question, therfore i started with a cylinder primitive….your workflow is very clear to me and i like it ;) regs, e.

    me spamming again, hahahaha ;)

here is what i was thinking about….

…initial primitive - cylinder - then a set of modifiers, got my topology by chamfering out verts ;)

…fully adjustable (vert-chamfer, poly-inset, and the rest of the modifiers)

…and the initial cylinder values are still working (radius, sides, vert-segments etc…)

    …have fun ;)

I just wanted to say thanks for the good tips and for sharing your knowledge.
Personally i love the stuff you can get done using Mograph for C4D; is it possible to re-create or simulate that kind of animations inside max? (clone/Effectors)
    Thanks
    Best regards

    Great post!
i have the following question though.
1.how about next step in inserting floors and building program?
    2. do you have post of animation making for initial conceptual mass indicating different progras flying into a center point that create a final overall building mass for a multi-function building forms?

    great tutorials.

You need someone to model for you

НЕ в тему немного, но радует, что автор к блогу не просто тупо взял какую то тему для ВП, а сделал что то свое и вкладывает в это дело душу.

Is this workflow possible in Maya, I’m looking to create a similar geometric structure to a project.

    Hey Dave,

Great work and thanks for taking the time to post your tutorials. Is there a way to make a your own topography patterns? Stay well.
