Description : In this CATIA / Digital Project video we will introduce Ordered Geometrical Sets and Bodies. We will describe conditions where you would use Geometrical Sets or Ordered Geometrical Sets. We will show how to use Ordered Geometrical Sets to organize object dependency and visibility. We will also show how Bodies are used inside of Ordered Geometrical Sets. This is the first video of a three part series.

Hello,
I saw your power copy presentation. The question is which version of CATIA has “Body in a Set” when you want to insert a new body in “Order Geometrical Set”? I try CATIA 18,19 and they doesn’t have “Body in a Set”.”Body in a Set” is forbidden operation.
Thank you,
Jonson
Hmmm… I using V5.19 and I’m unable to reproduce your error. This could be an options setting, but I’m not sure. Check to see if Tools/Option/Infrastructure/Part Infrastructure/Part Document/Hybrid Design is checked to enable hybrid design. Also make sure you’re creating and selecting an Ordered Geometrical Set (not just Geometrical Set) as the father (not feature) of the Body. Hope this helps.
Hey, was watching the tutorial, and Im stuck on one of my designs. Basically I’m creating a fan and I have the bracket (computer fan) and now I need to design the blades. However, I cant rotate these blades unless they belong to a different body than the frame. How would I actually create a new body to work in, I have found nothing on the net that seems to cover such a basic operation. Im using v5r19 catia, so I know it must be somewhere. Any help you could give would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Sam,
I would recommend that you use parts, rather than bodies. Bodies are geometric elements that make up a part, each blade in the fan could be individual bodies, for example. A part is a discrete object for manufacturing… the difference between the two depends on the level of detail needed in your model. Each fan blade could also be individual parts within a fan assembly. Assemblies are containers for parts, you use them to organize and manage parts. I plan to make a video that addresses these concepts, but it may be awhile before I get to it. You should check out the online documentation: http://ps-2.kev009.com:8081/CATIA-B18/CATIA_P3_default.htm

Hey Steve, thanks for the links. Whilst I believe I will indeed use different parts and assemble them (which I have done before thankfully) I am stil curious to know how exactly I would add another body to a part when I already have a geomtric set and part body. It would be helpful in later projects and the forum didnt turn up anything useful - I’m assuming this is because it is so simple that everyone else has picked it up except me. (Is there just a specific button I hit or something similar). Thanks
Hi Sam,
I’m able to insert new bodies into parts from any part workbench (part design, wireframe and surface design, etc…) by going under the insert menu and selecting body. If you don’t have that option or it doesn’t allow you to insert additional bodies, then there must be a setting somewhere that disabled this functionality. Unfortunately, I’ve never encountered this problem, so I’m at a loss on how to fix it, if that’s the case.
Ah yes, okay reinstall of catia has it under the insert menu. Thank you for the help, working well now.
