CASE recently wrote a Conceptual Design Curriculum for Autodesk, discussing concepts, techniques and strategies most beneficial to users for creating conceptual designs using such platforms as 3DS Max, Maya, and Revit.

Here is the description from the Autodesk website:

‘This project-based curriculum teaches conceptual design using three concepts-formal exploration, iterative design, and component-based systems and reinforces how to achieve design goals and utilize various modeling techniques. The curriculum will guide students through concepts and techniques based on projects and will then be used to create various iterations through parametric modeling to enhance the control of geometry. Students will utilize intelligent elements throughout an entire design project engaging them to use controls and parameters. At the end of this conceptual course, students will have a better understanding of the applicability of the many geometry types including curves, meshes, subdivision surfaces, patch surfaces, and NURBS. With this understanding they will be able to explore the many techniques within explicit and parametric modeling.’

To view and download the curriculum, visit this page on the Autodesk website.

Please note, you must be registered on the Autodesk Student Community to download the curriculum, but, registering is a great benefit, as you will have access to curriculum, software downloads, tutorials, discussion forums, among other things.

    Good afternoon,

    Can this Conceptual Design Curriculum be provided another way, for those of us not currently in school ( a school email is required to sign up at the Autodesk site ) but that desire to continue our education and exploration of the tools?

    Thank you,

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff, unfortunately not. I think Autodesk has to keep clear lines between what they offer students and professional. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    I am looking for a 3ds Max forum where I can post questions. Can you suggest a URL?

    @AMH

    You can post 3ds Max questions in response to any of the tutorials here on design reform in addition to the 3ds Max section on the design reform forum located at this address http://designreform.net/forum/index.php?board=30.0

    If you have any further questions, you can check out Autodesk’s official 3ds Max forum found here http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/
