goBIM has launched in the iPhone App store, providing designers worldwide the tools to take their 3D BIM models on the go for only $5.99 USD. The application navigates 3D BIM models and their associated data and works on first generation iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3Gs and iPod Touch.
goBIM™ allows users to easily manage navigation for models ranging from 2Mb – 4Mb in size (varying file size dependent on iPhone model), with options to manage larger models, dependent on additional load time from the Web.
Designer Ian Keough, a Senior Technical Designer with Buro Happold Consulting Engineers, LLC. in New York, independently developed the application to solve the problem of transferring 3D BIM models from the desktop to an accessible format for real-time review on the job site.
goBIM employs a two part process for designers to export their 3D model from their modeling application onto the iPhone. Users first export their 3D model into a “.gbm” file through a file exporter, then upload the files to their web server for use with goBIM . Currently, there is an exporter for Autodesk® Revit available for free on the goBIM Website, with exporters for other applications expected soon.
