In this Autodesk Revit Architecture 2011 training video, we’ll cover the how to use reporting parameters.
So based on a few articles i just saw (links below) it looks like Autodesk is officially annoucing AutoCAD for Macs. I think this is going to get A LOT of architects to switch.
In this Autodesk Revit Architecture 2011 training video, we’ll cover the basics of how to build an adaptive component.
Tomorrow (6/11) at 1:30 p.m. EST, DesignReform will be hosting our first ever live training webinar. David Fano will be presenting a tutorial on Data Trees using Grasshopper for Rhino, and will be available for live questions afterward, so stop by with all of your Grasshopper questions.
This is the local, social search service that we (CASE) have been working on for a little over a year now and we wanted to share with DesignReform readers, please check it out.
In this Revit Architecture 2010 Training video we’re going to take a look at the pattern based curtain panel family.
Positions available at KPF and Johnson Service Group are looking to fill BIM positions
Autodesk University is coming up (December 1 - 3 in Las Vegas) and I will be all over the place!
I will be teaching two classes, one that will show anyone interested in parametric design the powerful new Conceptual Design Tools in Revit Architecture 2010 (Class ID: DV9210-2) and another on Parametric Design Modeling with Autodesk 3ds Max (Class ID: AB114-4). I will also be presenting at the Pecha Kucha event - a fast-paced visual conversation where a diverse group of creative thinkers show 20 compelling images for 20 seconds each - and will be a judge at the Cut&Paste Design Slam.
If you’d like too meet up and grab a drink or some dinner please shoot me an email at d.fano@case-inc.com. Hope to see you at AU!
In this version of the exercise we’ll create the floor as solid rather than just a surface (i cheated last time
). Since we don’t have shelling (that I know of) in grasshopper I figured I would write a simple definition to do that f0r me.
In this Autodesk Revit 2010 video tutorial we’ll talk a bit about View Range and how to adjust the settings so that your views cut at a certain depth.
In September 2009, Storefront for Art and Architecture will inaugurate an exhibition of the work of Swiss architects Gramazio & Kohler, Architecture and Digital Fabrication, ETH Zurich and, in conjunction with NYC Department of Transportation’s Urban Art Program, Storefront will present the first architecture project to be digitally fabricated on site, at 1:1 scale, in the US.
In this Autodesk Revit Architecture 2010 video tutorial, we will create a shared parameter to generate a curtain panel schedule that drives the spacing of the louvers through a spreadsheet-like format (Revit schedule).
In this Revit Architecture 2010 video tutorial, we will nest our parametric louver system within a curtain panel family, so that it becomes a parametric panel system that can receive different louver counts.
So.. This is a bit off topic but not really
A blog that I read regularly (www.avc.com) posted this today last week (draft was started last week): http://www.avc.com/a_vc/2009/10/donors-choose-bloggers-challenge-going-for-the-threepeat.html and this is a link to Fred’s giving page.
All of the causes that Fred picked help young students learn with the assistance of technology. I just donated to Making Math Colorful Through Technology. besides a donation, I was thinking about proposing visual math with grasshopper. If simplified enough, do you think 5th graders would benefit from seeing simple math visually. I could imagine setting up sliders with integers that drive a simple series that makes boxes. If you know a teacher in the NYC area (or North East US) please let me know if this is something they would be interested in. I would really like to collaborate with them to see if we can use some of these visual techniques to teach simple concepts. This week I’ll post a video testing this out.
In this Autodesk Revit Architecture 2010 video tutorial, we will create a line based family to host the louver family.
In this Autodesk Revit Architecture 2010 video tutorial, we begin the construction of a parametric louver system. This louver system will be embedded in a curtain wall family by arraying generic model component family that is within a lined based family.
So this week classes started and one the most common questions I’m getting is “What’s the best computer for 3d modeling?”.
In this Revit video, you will learn how to split a face of your geometry and paint a material onto the newly created face without it affecting your line weights.
In this Grasshopper video, we will create a parametric truss system by generating and manipulating components and instantiating them onto a lofted geometry.
So, we’re thinking about a new endeavor for the DesignReForm community. We’re considering the possibility of broadcasting webinars, probably a handful of times per month. But, before we go any further with this idea, we’d like to know what you think about it!
THEVERYMANY has an opening of their installation at Bridge Gallery in NYC. The exhibit, about ‘rustic computation,’ opens on Thursday, July 9th, and we encourage you all to go check it out!
Autodesk has unveiled its Inventor Fusion Technology Preview!
In this 3ds Max/Rhino video we will explore the workflow of exporting/importing geometry in and out of 3ds Max and Rhino. This goal of this exercise is to study the functionality of one software platform versus another, understanding what tools are useful in each program.
In this Rhino 3D/Revit 2010 video we will explore the workflow of exporting geometry from Rhino through Revit and exporting as an IFC file.
This is a new idea for demoing software. What I’m trying to do is show the interactions or similar processes in 2 different applications.
Grimshaw Architects in New York, NYis looking to fill 2 positions. Architectural Illustration Specialist and Architectural Visualization Specialist.
The Autodesk University website is looking for users to vote for the AU. CASE has submitted 5 classes and we’re looking for your votes.
In this video tutorial we will continue with the introduction to grasshopper. We will cover an introduction to working with lists and some of the components you can use to manage list data.
So…….. We finally finished the jobs.designreform.net site. We hope this site is useful in these tricky times. The goal is to create a venue for people to find jobs that are specifically geared towards design technology professionals. Positions like BIM Managers, 3d Modelers, Algorithmic Design specialists, or anything having to do Design and Technology.
A HUGE thanks to Zack Downey from Designalyze.com for coming in and explaing Data Trees as well as few other demos to students in my Spring 2009 Meshing class.
In this 3ds Max 2010 video we will cover how to use the new topology tools with an Edit poly modifier.
In this Grasshopper video tutorial we will discuss data matching. This is how you start to connect objects from multiple lists.
In this video tutorial we will continue with the introduction to grasshopper. Rather then using numbers we start to make points and get a sense of how the components make geometry.
In this 3ds Max 2010 video we’ll cover some of the new modeling tools.
In this grasshopper video tutorial we will cover an introduction to the software. We focus on the interface and using components.
In this Revit Architecture 2010 video we will create hexagon panels with the new pattern based curtain panel.
In this Revit Architecture 2010 video we will quickly cover the Spline By Points command and a couple ways you can use it.
In this Grasshopper video tutorial we cover how to make a conditional statement with the dispatch component.
In this Grasshopper video tutorial we continue with the twisting tower. We add railings and build up some additional geometry.
In this Grasshopper video tutorial we create (I hate to say it) a twisting tower. Then we control the twist numerically rather than with curves int he scene. Later in the video we use Graph Mapper to adjust the rotation.
In this Revit Architecture 2010 video we will cover some basic surface modeling techniques. After that, we’ll focus the attention on building custom pattern based curtain panels.
In this Revit Architecture 2010 video we will cover the techniques for making a revolve in the new conceptual massing environment. We will also touch on the new tools for paneling surfaces.
McNeel just released the long awaited Rhino 5 Beta! You can download it here in either 32 or 64 bit.
link: http://download.rhino3d.com/rhino/5.0/wip
In this Revit Architecture 2010 video we will cover some additional features in the Make Form tool set. It’s mainly cause I forgot to mention these things in the last one
We also cover e new concept which is 3d snapping.
In this Revit Architecture 2010 video I’ll show how to use the Add Edge and Add Profile tools with in the conceptual mass modeling environment.
In this Revit Architecture 2010 video we cover the new way to make sweeps in the conceptual mass environment. Like all the other methods, the tool intuits the operation based on the selection you give it. In this case I feed it a path and a profile and knows to make a sweep.
In this Revit Architecture 2010 video you learn a bit about the direct manipulation tools in the new conceptual mass environment. We will also look at adding parameters and the new ways you can interact with them.
So, I signed up for twitter (pretty cool so far). Figure I can post more regularly when I attend events like I am now (Flux and SG. Both great so far.)
Follow me at www.twitter.com/davidfano or @davidfano
In this Revit Architecture 2010 video you will see how the new make form button works within the conceptual modeling environment works
