Rhino Grasshopper - Walkway Part 01 - Creating a Soild Surface

In this version of the exercise we’ll create the floor as solid rather than just a surface (i cheated last time :) ). Since we don’t have shelling (that I know of) in grasshopper I figured I would write a simple definition to do that f0r me.

Rhino Grasshopper - Intro Part 2

In this video tutorial we will continue with the introduction to grasshopper. Rather then using numbers we start to make points and get a sense of how the components make geometry.

Rhino Grasshopper - Tower Tutorial Part 01

In this Grasshopper video tutorial we create (I hate to say it) a twisting tower. Then we control the twist numerically rather than with curves int he scene. Later in the video we use Graph Mapper to adjust the rotation.

Grasshopper - Intro to sets - scalar operators, ranges, series

In this Grasshopper video tutorial we will cover how to start to work with sets. The idea is to go through and explain how scalar operators, ranges, series and simple functions work.

Rhino Grasshopper - Making a Parametric Spiral on New Blog Designalyze

A Grasshopper video on how to make a parametric spriral posted by Zack Downey on his new blog Designalyze
Nice work Zack! Congratulations on launching the site.  (Zach has taught me a bunch Grasshopper tricks)

Grasshopper - Patterning with 2 Attractor Points

In this Rhino / Grasshopper video tutorial we expand on a previous video from the site, Rhino - Patterning Based on Point Distance with Grasshopper. The idea is to use 2 points rather than one. The logic is borrowed from Andy Payne on a 3ds Max model with wire parameters. Basically the idea is to drive the radius of the circles with the distance between the point(s).

Grasshopper - David Ruttens ’s Shift Tutorial

In this Rhino / Grasshopper video tutorial we rebuild the shift tutorial provided by David Rutten on the Grasshopper blog. I hope to do one of these per file David has posted up. As simple as the interface is to understand when one comes at the software for the first time this can be a bit overwhelming. I just want to help make the dissection process as simple as possible.

Rhino - Patterning Based on Point Distance with Grasshopper

In this Rhino video tutorial we cover how to make scaling circular patterns based on the location of a point. This is similar to a tutorial I built in 3ds Max with wire parameters.

Explicit History is Now Grasshopper

So……. Explicit History has been re-branded as Grasshopper. I am also glad to say that David Rutten did not just change the name. He has also TONS of new functionality. This programs was amazing before now it’s even better. Further more this is only release 0.3 i would imagine they have plenty more on deck for future releases.

Rhino - Sine Curve with Explicit History (Grasshopper)

In this Rhino video tutorial we cover how to make a sine and cosine curve with with Explicit History (Grasshopper). The initial set up for this tutorial can be used to test any of the math functions. We set up a a simple interface to drive range parameters which can then connect to many of the scalar components.

Rhino - Exponential Curve with Explicit History (Grasshopper)

In this tutorial we cover how to make an exponential curve with with Explicit History. This is an intro into using the scalar parameters to begin driving our geometry with math. The next few videos I post will try to isolate these tools in an effort to see what they do individually. As my general philosophy I try to break software down into it’s simplest commands then begin to combine them to get more complex results.

Rhino - Tower Massing with Explicit (Grasshopper) and Implicit History

This Rhino Video Tutorial covers how to use Implicit and Explicit history to model a building massing. This tutorial is one that I had previously done in 3ds Max and wanted to compare the differences in work flow.

Rhino Explicit History (Grasshopper) with Implicit History

This Rhino 3d Video Tutorial covers how to use Explicit History modeling techniques on top of geometry created with implicit history. The bridge or walkway that I am modeling comes from a 3ds Max tutorial that I do to explain how one builds the hierarchy of modeling procedures while maintaining associative relationships.

Rhino - Explicit History Plugin (Now Grasshopper)

Software : Rhino 3d
Level : Intermediate
Description : This is a new plug-in that David Rutten is working on for Rhino. It has similar functionality to GC but at this point if not so component based. It is more like GC in that it uses features and stores them as nodes you can rearrange [...]
