Modelling
« on: July 05, 2008, 06:13:55 PM »

Hello,

I wished to know how to model correctly, with measurements.
As for inserting a window, in a certain place distancing x from source.

And also as snapping correctly things, because I don't know how to snap things correctly.

Thank you

Hello,

A real thank you for the tutorial. Smiley

Thank you for the simplicity on that, as sometimes are the basis that haunt us the most.

As for what you call a "max is not a production software", what would you call one for that, Rhino?

I am starting to work with a machine that prints .STL files, our method is to used autocad and maybe 3ds max, but it will be autocad, what is your tought on this?

Best regards and thank you once more:
Matias

I print from max all the time. When i say "production" I guess i mean fabrication.  3ds Max is pretty good for prepping 3d Print.  I plan to make a video if that soon.

You may also want to try Dimaster:
http://www.scriptspot.com/bobo/mxs9/DIMaster/index.html

I discovered that if you combine this with the Linked XForm modifier, you can modify geometry based on dimensions. Preferably use Mesh Select, Poly Select or Patch Select (whatever your geometry type is), in conjunction with dummy objects located at the selected sub-object entity, and link the dummy to the driven end of the dimension.

The dimensions are also animatable and renderable, it's super fun to play with.
Try it out... guaranteed this will eventually become a default part of 3ds max in releases to come.
